Apple is launching a new independent application for classical music, named Apple Music Classical, later this month. The application will highlight over 5 million classical tracks, everything from “new deliveries to celebrated masterpieces,” Apple said. The application has been in the works since 2021 when Apple acquired Primephonic, a traditional music streaming feature. Apple shut down Primephonic but guaranteed a new “committed insight” for classical music fans.

Apple bought Primephonic not least because it has consistently had an unrivaled complexity when it came to the old style, allowing clients to look by the conductor, for example, not simply by writer or title — a need unique to traditional music lovers.
