Best cameras phones are taking better pictures than ever grabbing loads of detail in photos shooting 4K and even 8K video and also delivering more Zoom than the most cameras. Not all the camera zoom use the same technology and there are more powerful types of zoom than others. Terms like digital zoom, optical zoom, periscope camera and telephoto camera etc are confusing but it does not need to be.
DIGITAL VS OPTICAL
The digital zoom simply crops into the photo and has been used in digital cameras for the decades. Dynamic zooms don’t really have anything to do with the camera lens and there is no actual optical magnification going on, it is all in the software.
Even if the zoom feature was not available in the camera than users could emulate a digital zoom by simply cropping the photo. More the users can crop the lower the quality of the picture end up with. And the 12 MP picture for example, it would turn into the 3 MP photo and if users can digitally zoomed or cropped into it and thereby degrading quality.
Second zoom is optical zoom, and is widely seen as better. Using the optics the camera lens magnifies the image that kinds in its sensor.
ZOOM LENSES AND PERISCOPE CAMERAS
The camera lens is further from the sensor the further the reach of the cameras or more telephoto it is. This logic is kind of telescope and extended the telescope and increase the distance between the lens and the eye and see further into the distance. If greater distance equates to more reach a powerful zoom on the smart phone needs a lens that is far away from its corresponding sensor and making for the thick camera.
