IO Interactive has recently completed the development of Hitman: World of Assassination and has announced its next projects. The studio is set to develop a James Bond game, which seems like the next logical step for them. However, the studio has also surprised its audience by announcing that it will be developing an online fantasy RPG.
In a blog post, IO Interactive shared that they are inspired by the concept of a diverse group of people, with varying skills and strengths, coming together to accomplish something greater than what they could achieve individually. This inspiration is the driving force behind their new projects.
IO Interactive did not provide many details about the online fantasy RPG project, but it referred to it as the beginning of their journey into this new world they are creating. The studio cited memories of tabletop fantasy RPGs as the inspiration behind the project.
Very last fantasy XVI is coming summer of 2023
The Fighting Fantasy books were influential, where players would choose their path against different enemies. The camaraderie and shared experience around a tabletop game were also important, with some taking on the role of a game master. The experience involved creativity, imagination, world-building, and a shared goal of creating an enjoyable gaming experience.
The indie game studio has revealed that the online fantasy RPG will be a brand-new intellectual property that aims to provide entertainment to players and have long-lasting appeal. To achieve this, all of the studio’s locations in Copenhagen, Malmö, and Barcelona will collaborate on the project.
IO Interactive will be developing the online fantasy RPG alongside its upcoming James Bond game, which is being developed in collaboration with MGM and Eon Productions under the codename “Project 007.” IO Interactive is well-positioned to develop a James Bond game by taking the popular core gameplay mechanics from Hitman, creating new maps and stories, and giving it a James Bond theme. The studio has stated that its James Bond game will be its own Bond story, not featuring any established Bond actors, and has the potential to become a spy trilogy. There is no release date set for the James Bond game.
