The company HTC is adding a few big updates to its Vive Focus 3, virtual reality headset and aiming to make it better for big, free roaming multiplayer VR games. The Vive Focus 3 a $1,300 non consumer focused wireless headset is adding the new feature called Location Based Entertainment and LBE Mode. the LBE Mode greatly expands the headset tracking distance to 33 by 30 meters.
The additional feature called the Map sharing lets multiple headsets share the same virtual world in the same location. These features mean the Focus 3 can more easily support the group VR sessions, users can find at an immersive free roam arcade space like Zero Latency or the Void. There is the mode that immediately calibrates the headset, when the new user puts it on instead of requiring the brief setup process and which is designed to help arcades put people into experiences more quickly.
The additional calibration mode will let the headsets track objects besides the Focus 3 controller and includes the Vive Tracker puck. The headset will soon support the WIFI 6E standard. Location based VR entertainment the kind where users move around the real physical arena with other people, rather than standing in the stationary space it often relies on plugging headsets like the original HTC Vive into the wearable back pack computers. It has several disadvantages like it takes time to put people in the back packs and the back pack strap systems may fit some users poorly and they make the experience less comfortable for everyone.
The lot of headsets also require the external tracking beacons like HTC and the Valve Light house system and which must be set up over head and can be accidentally blocked by other players. The fully self contained system that incorporate tracking cameras, and the computing power into the headset can change that.
They have only been widely available for the couple of years and the biggest one and the Oculus Quest from the Facebook or Meta that is primarily aimed at home use. It has the similar feature set to Quest but it is tailored for the businesses and this update bolsters HTC long time presence in the VR location based entertainment and Arcade market.
