Nintendo is a video game company in Japan that was built in 1889. Initially, the company produced playing cards, but it has since expanded to create video games and gaming consoles. Nintendo is known for creating iconic video game franchises such as Mario, The Legend of Zelda, and Pokemon, among others.
The company has released several gaming consoles over the years, including the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES), Game Boy, Nintendo 64, GameCube, Wii, and Switch.
The Electronic Entertainment Expo of this year is being skipped by Nintendo, better called E3. The Switch maker clarified on Friday it won’t participate in the gaming convention, which is about to return this summer after being denied in 2022.
According to a statement from a spokesperson at Nintendo, the company considers its participation in events on a case-by-case basis and is constantly looking for ways to connect with fans. In this instance, the spokesperson explained via email to CNET, the company has decided not to participate in this year’s E3 show as it did not align with their current plans.

Nonetheless, Nintendo maintains a strong relationship with the Entertainment Software Association (ESA) and E3 and has been supportive of both entities in the past. While the statement did not provide specific details about why Nintendo decided not to participate in this year’s E3 show, it suggests that the company may have chosen to prioritize other marketing or promotional opportunities that better align with its current goals and strategies. Nevertheless, Nintendo fans can still expect the company to remain engaged in the gaming community and to support industry events in various other ways.
It’s not unexpected that Nintendo is pulling out of the convention as they have not been as active in recent years. Nintendo has not held a dedicated press conference since the 2012 event and has opted for digital-only Nintendo Directs instead. According to a recent report from IGN, Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo will not be attending the event and will not have a presence on the show floor. It’s expected that Microsoft will hold its own Xbox showcase event in Los Angeles later this year.
The E3 gaming convention is slated to take place at the Los Angeles Convention Center from June 13 to 16 in 2023. Due to the pandemic, the event was canceled in 2020 and held as a digital event in 2021. Although it was initially anticipated to return in 2022, it was ultimately canceled once again.
