Owners of the Porsche Taycan can now get courses in CarPlay using Apple Maps in light of their vehicle’s charge level.
Vehicle producers have been set in the spotlight after GM’s public move away from Apple CarPlay. However, Porsche has multiplied its commitment to CarPlay with Wednesday’s news.
As indicated by the Porsche site, all models of the Porsche Taycan have acquired help for Apple Maps EV steering using CarPlay. This component was reported during WWDC in 2020, and Porsche is just the second organization to adopt the feature.
When the update is installed, Apple Guides will use ongoing vehicle data to show battery and map routes. The feature enables EVs to design longer drives considering charging stations in mind-based vehicles’ battery drainage rate and current charge.
The Porsche Taycan is just the second vehicle to adopt Apple Guides’ EV directing since the feature was reported in 2020. Around then, Apple said it was working with Ford and BMW to coordinate EV directing into their vehicles. Three years on, it hasn’t made its way onto any BMW models, with the Passage Bronco Mach-E being the only other vehicle to assist the feature.
BMW cars globally may come without Android vehicles and Apple CarPlay
Before this update, Taycan owners needed to close CarPlay to make a course that included charging stops via Apple Maps. Taycan models already include Porsche’s own Charging Organizer which can similarly guide drivers to charging locations given the vehicle’s expected battery duration. Porsche claims the Apple Maps EV steering highlight isn’t expected to replace this but to give its clients with more route planning directions.
“We’ve paid attention to our clients, and they value flexibility,” says Steffen Haug, managing director, of Porsche Digital, in the organization’s official statement. “This coordination with an item that they are already known gives more choices and trust by the way they use their Taycan, both in everyday exercises and on longer travels.”
Apple Guides’ EV routing is upheld on all Taycan models, but Porsche noticed that models from 2021 or older should have a free programming update introduced at a Porsche service studio to empower it. Taycan owners have to associate the My Porsche application with Apple Maps on an iPhone running iOS 16.4.
