Twitter announced that it has acquired open back a push notifications company. Open back offers device side control of push notifications according to twitter is head of consumer product jay Sullivan and twitter could use the team to pull up timely information even when you are away from the app.
The best push notification brings people to the conversation they care about on twitter Sullivan said as part of a twitter thread. But irrelevant notifications are a distraction. With millions of people visiting twitter via notifications every day we want them to be timely relevant and engaging.
Open back and their talented team joining twitter will help us improve our ability to deliver the right notifications at the right time in a way that puts people is privacy first. It is unclear exactly when these improved notifications might look like. People perhaps I think this is a good idea because I have DIY’d something similar by making a highly curated tweet deck list that sends a push notification whenever somebody on the list tweets. But that only works when I am on my computer. With this acquisition twitter could replicate something like that to automatically pick the best tweets from people I follow or that it thinks I might care about and make it work whenever I am logged in to the platform. Twitter spoke person Adrian Zamora declined to share terms of the open back deal.
