After 2 years the Withings ScanWatch is now available to purchase in the US, after its announcement back at the beginning of 2020. ScanWatch was waiting for the clearance from the Food and the Drug Administration. It has received in October for its EKG and the blood oxygen measurement features.
Its competitors Apple Watch and Fitbit both of whom can track Blood Oxygen and have EKG technology and Withings is claiming that the hybrid watch can detect sleep apnea.
The ScanWatch is still part of an opening clinical study for this claim. Unlike Apple and Fitbit devices the Withings ScanWatch also requires medical review, users are required to gain medical clearance to fully access the EKG feature. Withings says, after 24 to 48 hours the users can access their first EKG reading in the Health Mate Ap. They can install it on their connected phones, during that time their readings are sent to Heart beat Health a health care technology Company.
There they will be consulted by the cardiology team for the clinical interpretation and according to the company press release. The feature is only available if the users are over 22 years old. In some states users may be required to give their mobile number, so the Heart beat can contact the users directly about the results.
That is lot of Hoops to jump through for the something, Apple and Fitbit can effectively do with the tap but it could be worth it if users can want the smart watch that looks more like the regular one.
Withings Scan Watch is priced starting at $279, for the 38 mm and $299 for the 42 mm and it us currently being sold on the Withings Website, on Amazon and on the Best Buy.
